Spring is a wonderful time to discover Constantia

Spring in Constantia – Wine, Markets and Local Events

Spring has arrived in the Constantia Valley, bringing longer days, warmer afternoons and plenty of reasons to get out and explore one of Cape Town’s most beautiful neighbourhoods.

For visitors staying in Constantia, this is an especially good time of year to discover the area’s combination of vineyards, historic properties, restaurants, markets and outdoor activities. The valley’s wine estates remain one of its biggest attractions, with Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia Estate, Buitenverwachting, Constantia Uitsig Wine Estate and Beau Constantia all offering their own take on the Constantia wine experience.

There is also plenty happening locally over the coming weeks.

On 11 October, the Alphen Centre in Constantia is scheduled to host The Alphen Antiques & Collectables Fair, making it an interesting outing for anyone who enjoys antiques, collectables and browsing for something a little different.

Families may also want to put 24 October in their diaries. Constantia Waldorf School is hosting its annual fair, with this year’s theme being “A Fairy Tale”. The event promises food stalls, crafts, games, rides and entertainment and runs from 10am to 3pm.

For wine lovers, Constantia’s estates provide an ideal way to spend a spring afternoon. A visit to Groot Constantia can combine wine tasting with a look at one of the Cape’s historic wine estates, while the surrounding Constantia wine route provides opportunities to enjoy the scenery, restaurants and vineyards at a leisurely pace.

One of the pleasures of staying in Constantia is that you do not have to travel far to find something interesting to do. Whether it is an afternoon exploring the vineyards, browsing a local market, enjoying lunch or simply taking a walk through the valley, spring provides the perfect opportunity to experience the quieter side of Cape Town.

And after a day exploring Constantia, there is nothing better than returning to a peaceful guesthouse and enjoying the evening at your own pace.
